A triple is a mathematical procedure used to solve examples such as „the more, the more“
or „the more, the less“.
„THE MORE, THE MORE“ – Direct proportionality
When 1 apple costs 5 CZK, how much 3 apples cost?
The more apples I buy, the more I pay.
Solution using fractions
1 apple …. 5 CZK
3 apples …. x CZK
Write the numbers one below the other and put a fraction line between them. Turn the dots into equals and it’s done.
Now all you have to do is point out x and calculate.
If you can’t point out an unknown from the fraction, it’s good to learn. You will use it not only in the math, but especially in life.
Solution with arrows
Both arrows lead in the same direction
We start with an unknown x, we put equals and we follow the arrows.
Solution by drawing … That sounds interesting, doesn’t it?
„THE MORE, THE LESS“ – Inverse proportionality
When 1 person builds a wall in 20 hours. How long will it take 4 people?
The more people, the less hours.
Solution using fractions
Man … 20 hours
4 people …. x hours
Write the numbers one below the other and put a fraction line between them. You turn the dots into equals and then just flip one fraction. Attention! Only one fraction!
Now all you have to do is point out x and calculate.
Solution with arrows
The arrows point in different directions
We start with an unknown x, give equals and follow the arrows.
