Operating Instructions:
- The device turns on automatically along with other educational and entertainment elements in the MOTIO center.
- Use the touchscreen to select the game mode:
- 1 player = full-panel game
- 2 players = right and left sides operate independently (or 1 player using both hemispheres).
- Start the timer by pressing any button.
- Five contact points will light up in random positions: press them individually before they turn off.
- New lights will appear within the time limit. Your job is to turn them all off by pressing them.
- The game continues until the set time runs out. Your score is displayed on the screen.
- A new game is automatically ready after the previous one ends.
Interactivity:
The device offers two main modes:
- Single-player mode: All 32 buttons (16 on the left, 16 on the right) are gradually activated. Pressing any button starts the game, randomly lighting up two buttons on each side. The player must press the lit buttons as quickly as possible. Each successful press triggers another light in the same sector. The screen displays the number of successful hits and the remaining time. The goal is to score as many points as possible within 30 seconds.
- Two-player mode (or one player testing both brain hemispheres):
Again, all 32 buttons are used. Each player operates only within their half of the table (left or right). The timer is shared, but each player’s score is tracked separately. The game ends after 30 seconds, and both scores are displayed for comparison. After 5 seconds, the results reset, and the exhibit is ready for a new round.
Educational Value – Exhibit Concept:
Nature is a constant battle for survival. A potential prey must stay alert, and a predator loses its chance if the prey reacts quickly and correctly. Even then, the predator must keep up and adapt to changes.
Humans, protected by civilization, are somewhat shielded from this stress, but still not entirely. Modern environments still demand fast and effective responses from our nervous system.
This exhibit, called Reaction Time Tester, offers a playful and addictive way to test reaction speed, with the buttons laid out in the design of butterfly wings.
