Gears

Prevody

Operating Instructions:

  1. The composition is permanently in working condition, always ready for operation.
  2. The gears of various sizes, attached to the magnetic board, can be easily removed and put together into any pattern in both the horizontal and vertical directions.
  3. Rotate the gears in such a way that you can observe the rotations in the system connected to it. Estimate or calculate the number of their rotations and determine the gear ratio (including multiple gears).
  4. Pay attention to the direction of the rotations.

Interactivity: Everything that moves in rotational or translational motion is initiated by the visitor. Components in motion, where unwanted contact with the hand or other parts of the visitor’s body is possible, are secured with a transparent cover (belts). Both the safe and durable materials, as well as the construction design, were chosen in order to ensure safety and functionality, and to make it easier to understand the activities.

Educational Significance – Concept of the Exhibit: When it comes to the technology of machines and drives, gears are, without a doubt, a revolutionary invention. Initially used for lifting and pulling loads and materials, they then helped with the mechanics of time measurement, helped grind grain, made life easier for cyclists, and, with the massive arrival of combustion engines, their application expanded significantly in almost everything that uses kinetic energy. They are mostly hidden, often well lubricated, and it is not advisable to put hands near them while in motion. This does not apply to the exhibit „Gears.“ This hands-on activity demonstrates how we optimize the performance of energy devices, convert one type of motion to another (translational/rotational and vice versa), or change the direction of rotation.
