Operating Instructions
- The exhibit is permanently in working condition and ready for use at any time.
- From the available mode selection (under the Interactivity section), choose the one in which you want to play the game.
- Place the guiding nut at the bottom of the exhibit, then insert the foam ball into it.
- By pulling the looped parts of the strings, guide the nut upward between the holes (so the ball doesn’t fall through) all the way to the target hole at the top.
- If you manage to guide the ball to the target hole without having to use your hands, you’ve reached the goal and completed the task. If it falls anywhere else than the target hole, start over.
Interactivity:
The exhibit can be used in three modes:
- Basic Mode – One or at most two participants coordinate pulling both ends of the string to guide the ball placed in the ring through the holes on the surface, aiming to reach the target (or designated) point without letting it fall into any of the holes along the way. This tests either individual skill or teamwork.
- Navigation Mode – One player actively pulls the strings and guides the ball without seeing the path. The second player, with a clear view, acts as a navigator.
- Drunk Mode – A special eye cover simulates the distorted vision of a person under the influence of alcohol. Visitors can compare their performance under normal visual conditions and impaired vision.
Educational Value:
Driving a vehicle in rough terrain requires a high level of concentration, attention, and driving skill. One must avoid obstacles, find the right path for the wheels, and safely transport both passengers and cargo to the destination. People have practiced this even on the Moon, and gained more experience with remote-controlled technology on the surface of Mars.
Training and testing one’s abilities doesn’t require a complex system. A steering wheel and engine can be replaced with a hand and a string. Knowing what’s right, left, up, down, or diagonal – this is the place to try it. It also demonstrates how a person (simulated here under the influence of alcohol) reacts when performing a task.
A simple exhibit with so many possibilities.
